Short description about the volume:

The book Sustainable Food Packaging Composites: Processing and Applications will explore the food packaging composites, which helps in the preservation of foods and helps to protect foods from any chemical, environmental, biological, or physical damages during the course of transportation, storage, or distribution of a variety of food items, including milk, beverages, fruits, vegetables, cooked foods, etc. The shelf life of food depends on biodegradation caused by foodborne pathogens. Active packaging, i.e. antimicrobial additive loaded packaging materials, can reduce the chance of food spoilage and thus enhance the profitability of the production. Conventional polymeric composites need to be replaced with biodegradable polymer-based composites to maintain the sustainability of the planet. Biodegradable polymers are mostly bio-based and eco-friendly in nature, which make them an obvious choice as raw materials for sustainable product development. However, melt strength, brittleness, and thermal stability are some of the properties of biodegradable polymers that need to be modified for application-orientated product development.

Sustainable Food Packaging Composites: Processing and Applications will comprehensively convey the trends of nanofillers for composite development, edible packaging, and active packaging to the readers. It also will include life assessment studies, degradability studies, and quality assessment studies of a variety of food packaging composites. The book will be comprised of 16 chapters that include scenarios of food packaging composites, the applicability of different biodegradable composites as packaging substances, and application-oriented studies of biodegradable plastics for food packaging.
