Tourism has long been hailed as one of the most powerful force of economic growth worldwide. Its ability to generate employment, boost infrastructure, and facilitate cultural exchange is unmatched. However, the tourism industry’s rapid expansion has often come at a cost in environmental degradation, cultural commodification, and the exploitation of natural resources. Today, more than ever, there is a growing consensus that sustainable tourism must become the norm rather than the exception.

This new book, Tourism Economics: The Way of Sustainability, explores the delicate balance between economic development through tourism and the preservation of the very environments and communities that attract millions of visitors annually. As global climate challenges mount and as the social fabric of many tourism dependent regions comes under strain, sustainable practices are no longer just desirable but imperative.

The volume first defines sustainable tourism economics and then delves into the specifics, covering sustainable practices in tourism, the impact of tourism on the economic conditions of a country, policies and regulations for sustainable tourism, maintaining a balance between marketing and preservation of cultural heritage sites, microfinance interventions, and more.

Serving as both a guide and a call to action for anyone passionate about ensuring that tourism remains a source of sustainable growth, equity, and environmental preservation in the years to come, this volume provides insights into tourism economics and encourages policymakers, industry leaders, and tourists alike to adopt sustainable approaches in their choices. Whether through eco-friendly investments, community-based tourism models, or fostering economic inclusivity, tourism can indeed be a force for good, contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
