Short description about the volume

With increasing pressures on global resources, rising issues of waste management, and an urgent need for transition to a circular economy-based society, the application of synthetic biology and modern bioengineering for waste valorisation is gradually emerging as a transformative frontier. However, current literature in this domain is fragmented across diverse disciplines. Therefore, there is an urgent need for designing an integrated academic platform that compiles recent advances, industrial applications, and future directions shaping the application of synthetic biology and bioengineering processes for waste valorization.

The proposed book, Next-Gen Synthetic Biology & Bioengineering for Waste Valorization, aims to address this gap by providing a comprehensive and technically rigorous account of how modern synthetic biology and bioengineering approaches can be harnessed to convert diverse waste streams into value-added products. This work will systematically cover the design principles of engineered biological systems, including microbial cell factories, algal and fungal platforms, and synthetic consortia, for the efficient transformation of organic, industrial, agricultural, and xenobiotic wastes. This book is uniquely designed to support research, education, and industrial innovation in environmental biotechnology, nanotechnology, synthetic biology, circular bioeconomy, and green technology.

Coverage

The aim of this book is to bridge fundamental biological engineering with applied waste management solutions, thereby contributing to the development of a circular bioeconomy. Its scope spans from molecular-level engineering to industrial-scale deployment, while also addressing critical considerations such as biosafety, regulatory frameworks, and ethical implications of deploying engineered organisms in environmental applications. Moreover, his book intends to serve as a comprehensive, authoritative, and futuristic resource for discussing the rapidly expanding intersection of synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, bioprocess design, and their subsequent application for sustainable waste valorization. We would request potential contributors to consider submitting valuable contributions for enriching the scholarly content of the intended volume.
