This new book, Mapping the Metaverse: Digital Ecosystems, Virtual Landscapes, and Immersive Experiences, examines the metaverse as a persistent, immersive, and interconnected digital ecosystem that is reshaping how people experience, interpret, and interact with the world. Moving beyond a technology-centered view, the volume considers immersive environments as socio-technical systems in which technologies, users, institutions, cultures, and economic activities dynamically interact.

Taking a multidisciplinary perspective, the book explores how virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, blockchain, wearable technologies, and related innovations are transforming entertainment, tourism, education, healthcare, business, and social engagement. Chapters address virtual and augmented experiences in tourism, immersive classrooms and educational transformation, metaverse-enhanced healthcare, virtual volunteering and global citizenship, accessibility and universal design, virtual economies, and business innovation.

The volume also considers the broader cultural, ethical, and institutional implications of digital ecosystems. Particular attention is given to inclusion, community participation, accessibility, responsible development, and the relationship between physical and virtual experiences. Combining conceptual frameworks, empirical investigations, and sector-specific analyses, the book bridges theory and practice while identifying emerging opportunities and challenges.
