The new book, Internal Combustion Engines: Optimization, Performance Enhancement, and AI-Powered Modeling, provides a comprehensive understanding of internal combustion (IC) engines, covering essential engine parameters, performance metrics, emissions, and both conventional and non-conventional fuels. While the core of the book is rooted in mechanical engineering and chemical kinetics, it also strategically introduces AI and ML techniques as modern computational and optimization tools.

The volume explores the evolution of biofuels from first to fourth generations, detailing the processes of oil extraction, refinement, and advanced biodiesel production techniques such as catalytic transesterification. Furthermore, the text examines the specific effects of biodiesel on engine properties and applications, while also addressing performance characteristics, emission profiles, and the practical challenges of integrating biodiesel into IC engines through various case studies.

The book also explore into the fundamental principles of optimization, demonstrating how data-driven techniques can be leveraged to enhance engine efficiency, minimize environmental impact, and facilitate the transition to alternative fuels. Technical depth is provided through extensive coverage of computational fluid dynamics and combustion modeling, including governing equations, turbulence models, and specific operating conditions.

Readers are introduced to advanced topics such as probability density function models, characteristic time-scale models, and coherent flame models. Ultimately, the book guides the reader through numerical modeling and simulation, the application of response surface methodology for experimental design, and the implementation of artificial neural networks for predictive modeling. By bridging foundational biodiesel production with AI-powered optimization, this book offers a modern perspective on performance enhancement in engine research.

AI and ML data-driven methods are also presented specifically to streamline the optimization of complex variables for more precise predictions in alternative fuel performance and the accelerated development of high-efficiency, sustainable propulsion systems.

Designed to provide researchers, engineers, and students with a robust foundation in internal combustion engine theory, the book focuses on the complex interplay between geometry, efficiency, and fuel dynamics, equipping readers with the technical expertise needed to optimize engine parameters for maximum power output and minimal environmental impact.
