—From the Foreword by Rishi Ranjan, Director, Public Cloud Services at Kyndryl (IBM Spinoff), Heartfulness Mediation Trainer, India

Our modern-day fast-paced existence has resulted in people having lost sight of living a quiet, collected, and relaxed existence. Regular mindfulness exercises enable us to hone the ability to return our straying awareness to the present. Integrating mindfulness practices into the educational system can lead to a holistic development in the growing generation.

This new book, Integrating Mindfulness in Education: An Approach for Holistic Development, brings this idea to life by presenting evidence-based research and practices in the education sector for the integration of mindfulness in the education system. This book goes beyond traditional approaches to mindfulness in education by offering a
holistic perspective

Stressing the importance of mindfulness in education as a means to sustainable development, this volume explores how mindfulness education can help students achieve psychological peace. A comparison of the Indian education system with the Finnish education system throws more light on the disparity in focus on the approach towards holistic development of students in the two countries. Moral and human values are explored in a number of chapters. One chapter explores the teachings of Upanishads, the Hindu religious text, in relation to mindfulness as well. In addition, chapters explore topics such as examination reforms, holistic progress cards, education as an outcome for value-based learning, and more. Other topics include integrating human values in management education, value-based learning education, mindfulness, and self-identity.

A conscious attempt to reform the current education system, this book is a small effort to integrate mindfulness in education for holistic development. It will be an essential resource for anyone interested in promoting well-being and learning in educational settings, particularly policymakers, teachers, as well as students and educational researchers.
