Gymnosperms are non-flowering vascular plants and comprise over 1000 species spread overs 83 genera. They have been the source of remedies for the treatment of human diseases since time immemorial because of their antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, anti-malarial, antidiabetic, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, hepatoprotective, and nephroprotective properties. They are used to treat asthma, rheumatism, central nervous system (CNS), wound healing, etc., and have great potential for further study for the discovery of new anticancer compounds.

In this new volume, Bioactives and Pharmacology of Gymnosperms, each chapter covers a specific species of medicinal gymnosperms, detailing their the bioactive compounds and pharmacological aspects and activities, including their medical importance, their chemical structures, and more. From Abies sachalinensis to Podocarpus macrophyllus, and from Cryptomeria japonica to Juniperus oxycedrus L., this volume covers 23 of the most medically important gymnosperms.

A comprehensive desk reference on bioactives and pharmacology of gymnosperms, this volume will be a valuable sourcebook for scientists, researchers, industry professionals and faculty and students for the development of new and effective drugs from medicinal gymnosperms.
