Short description about the volume:

Artificial and Thermal Intelligence in Sustainable Smart Manufacturing Systems: Progress, Challenges, and Future Prospects explores how thermal science and digital intelligence together shape the future of sustainable manufacturing. The book highlights the integration of thermal management with artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital twins, and big data analytics to create energy-efficient, adaptive, and intelligent production systems. It addresses the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0, emphasizing human–machine collaboration, cyber-physical systems and the growing importance of thermal intelligence as a cross-cutting enabler in manufacturing.

The chapters cover real-time monitoring through smart sensors, IoT-based data pipelines, AI-driven defect detection, predictive maintenance, and optimization of thermally intensive processes such as additive manufacturing, machining, welding, forging, and casting. The book introduces the Thermal Frontiers Benchmark Suite, a pioneering dataset framework designed to standardize industrial practices, accelerate adoption of Industry 4.0, and foster collaboration between academia and industry. It also examines challenges in data interoperability, industrial adoption, and the pathway toward standardized solutions.

Finally, the book concludes with a forward-looking roadmap for the post-2030 era, a milestone globally recognized for carbon footprint reduction and net-zero targets emphasizing renewable energy integration, adaptive thermal materials, and AI–robotics collaboration to realize carbon-neutral factories. This book serves as a critical resource for researchers, engineers, and policymakers driving sustainable smart manufacturing.
