The book, Protective Armor Engineering Design, will provide an in-depth survey of the state of the art of research and practical techniques in the area of protected fabrics, especially stab and bulletproof fabrics.

There is increasing interest in the area of protective vests, either against bullets or protection from the most realistic threats within domestic frontline operations: edged weapon, knives, and medical needles. Body armor has traditionally been designed with the principal purpose of providing protection for the wearer against sharp objects and ballistic threats. Flexible stab-resistant fabrics have been widely used in military and civilian fields; however, numerous efforts have been taken to construct better lightweight soft body armors, such as using high-performance fibers. Most of present studies on protective armor are related with the protection against bullets. But recently, the studies on the protection against impact by sharp blade or spike have been investigated actively too. Vests for police officers help protect from death or serious injury with an ever-growing line of products designed to help defend against ballistic projectiles.

The book will discuss
• History of the protective armor: The art of the protective armor manufacturing has a long history starts in ancient Egypt and China civilizations and progressed as the developments of the weapons techniques progressed. An historical background is given.
• Materials used for body armor: Many studies are discussed been on the design and materials for the soft armor to increase its cutting and perforation resistance utilizing the fabrics from high-performance fibers. The different fabric structures and fiber type properties are thoroughly outlined.
• Anti-stab and anti-bullet armor design: Looks at the different parameters required for the design of flexible armor in order to stop high-velocity projectiles. Resistance to the penetration is one of the most essential parameters considered for estimation of usage properties of the fabrics designed for protection against various types of mechanical impact. Nevertheless, current stab resistant clothes have several weak points, such as heavy weight, bulky shape, and uncomfortable characteristics. Besides, without a good customized fit, body armor can become a distraction to the duties of female wearer as she may feel uncomfortable or even pain on some parts, which will obstruct her mobility and leave her life in danger.
• The comfort of the body armor design: Examines protection and comfort, which are significant aspects for body armor. This should take into consideration the armor flexibility, thermal resistivity, and evaporative moisture resistivity through the fabric
• Method of testing the flexible body amours: Covers the methods of testing the components of the flexible body armor according to the level of the protection required, such as (NIJ 0115.00 and NIJ Standard - 0101.06) and other international standards.

The book will give the reader a thorough grounding on the function of the protective flexible body, its history, requirements of its design, materials used, different designs and techniques used for modern armor, methods of testing, and the regulatory standards for the flexible textile body proactive armor. This book fills an important gap the area of the protective fabric against stabbing or bullets and provides practical knowledge for the body armor design.
